On July 4, 2019, a presentation of a study of the NGO “Centre for International Security” – “Ukrainian Frontier: Challenges for Transcarpathia and the Black Sea Coast region” took place.
This initiative of the Centre for International Security and the National Institute for Strategic Studies was implemented with the support of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Ukraine in partnership with the Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs of Ukraine.
During April-May 2019, representatives of the Center for Applied Research, the Center for International Security, the National Institute for Strategic Studies and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Ukraine studied the problems of the Transcarpathian regional centers (the cities of Mukachevo, Beregove, Khust), Mykolayivska (the cities of Pervomaisk, Yuzhnoukrainsk, Ochakiv) and Odesa (Podilsk, Belgorod-Dniester, Bolgrad) regions.
The result of the study was the identification of actual threats and challenges in multicultural, multi-national regions, where there are risks of increasing conflict potential through internal and external factors – the Black Sea region and Transcarpathia; recommendations on reducing certain destructive impacts and improving the quality of governance at the level of gromadas (communities), local and central authorities.
The field stage of the project conducted by the Centre for Applied Research included quantitative and qualitative sociological research (questionnaire survey, in-depth interviews, group focused interviews in the form of thematic round tables). The total number of processed forms – 1500 (500 questionnaires for each region).
